The first candidate backed by the IRÁNY Party’s experts made his debut in Tab
A by-election for mayor was held on Sunday in Tab, Somogy County, where Péter Jámbor ran as an independent candidate with the professional backing of the IRÁNY a Jövő Party. This was the first time the party, registered in August, had backed a candidate.
Péter Jámbor achieved a result of 6.5 percent as a mayoral candidate and 11% as a council candidate. He was not a local resident, had no prior political background or roots in the town, and so built the campaign exclusively on professional messages, community support and local hearings.
Since 22 October, Péter Jámbor has been the Irány officer for Somogy’s 4th individual constituency. According to the party’s statement, this showing was an important test for the organisation’s team of experts and its communication style:
“This is our first public contest where, without a well-known name and without an embedded local network, with pure professionalism, positive messages and community support, we showed what a new political culture is capable of. In a rural setting, 6.5% shows us that there is a social demand for clean, expertise-based and future-oriented politics.”
The IRÁNY a Jövő Party wants to bring into public life a political culture built on performance, ethical conduct and forward-looking solutions. In recent months dozens of Iránypont groups have been launched across the country.
The IRÁNY Party’s aim is to build a credible, performance-based alternative in the domestic political arena. In the start-up period, with professional support and a technological background, they stand beside independent or non-party candidates who want to act for their own town on a community basis – especially where the community is open to a new kind of political cooperation.
“This was only the first step. What we saw in Tab is the pilot run. We were tested, we gathered feedback. The 6.5% is not a goal but a direction. We build on from here,” said Dezső Farkas, leader of the IRÁNY Party.
