The press that calls itself opposition is well on its way to bearing a historic responsibility for another Fidesz two-thirds majority.

They stubbornly cling to the mistaken notion that every new party worsens the opposition’s chances. We have heard this narrative before in the time of Jobbik, in the time of the “joining of forces”, and now in connection with the Tisza Party. But this narrow-minded thinking results in one thing only: they silence all those emerging actors who would bring real, systemic renewal to Hungarian politics.

This is how it can happen that voters were not even informed about several important initiatives of the IRÁNY a Jövő Party:

  • our three referendum initiatives
  • the opening of supporter membership
  • the building of our nationwide network, the Iránypont groups
  • the presentation of our experts on the IRÁNY Podcast

And yet several of these are achievements that the majority of small or mid-sized parties cannot show even after years.

Why do we say the opposition media is making a historic mistake with this?

  • In both 2018 and 2022 the “one actor stands against Fidesz” model failed miserably.
  • In 2022 several hundred thousand Jobbik voters stayed at home. The chance of a change of government was lost precisely because of the lack of a diverse alternative.
  • Neither in 2018 nor in 2022 was Fidesz prevented from reaching a two-thirds majority by Jobbik and Our Homeland getting into parliament.

The same situation arises for 2026 if we do not finally acknowledge: alongside the largest opposition party, there is a need for new forces that offer a real electoral alternative.

Parties that can also be joined by those who want a change of system but do not wish to vote, out of compulsion, for the single option placed before them. In this way they can also mobilise, for the sake of a change of system, voters who would otherwise stay at home.

The vast majority of Hungarian voters do not want to play tactics. They want to choose. The IRÁNY a Jövő Party is creating this electoral option.
